Frequently asked questions
How does swiping work, and can I change what each direction does?
Shoo shows your photos and videos one at a time, as cards. Swipe a card left, right, up or down, or tap the buttons under it. By default, left adds it to the delete queue, right and down keep it, and up adds it to Favorites.
To change a direction, tap ⚙️ in the top-right corner, pick a direction under Swipes and choose Keep, Delete, Favorite or an album. You can pick an existing album or type a name to create a new one.
How does deleting work?
Nothing is deleted while you swipe. Photos and videos you swipe to delete wait in a queue. Tap the “🗑 Delete” button at the bottom of the screen to review them in a grid, then tap Delete all.
iOS then asks you to confirm in its own system dialog. Deleted items go to the Recently Deleted album in the Photos app, where iOS keeps them for 30 days. The space is fully freed once that album is emptied.
I swiped the wrong photo. How do I get it back?
The “↶ Undo” button at the bottom steps back through your swipes one at a time, including swipes to delete.
In the delete queue, tap ↩ on a thumbnail to restore it right away. Or tap the photo itself to open it full screen, then choose Restore, or delete just that one.
Already deleted it? Within 30 days, open the Photos app, find Recently Deleted under Utilities and recover it there.
Why does Shoo need access to my photos?
To show your photos and videos as cards, sort and filter them and, only when you ask, add them to Favorites or albums and delete them. All of this happens on your iPhone. If you turned access off, turn it back on in iOS Settings: find Shoo there and open Photos.
I only allowed access to some photos. What changes?
With limited access, Shoo sees only the photos and videos you selected. In the banner at the top of the main screen, tap Select more photos to add others, or Full access to open iOS Settings and allow access to your whole library. Choosing albums, iOS system albums and adding photos to albums need full access.
Are my photos uploaded anywhere?
No. Shoo has no servers, accounts, analytics, ads or tracking, and it works fully offline. Your photos and videos never leave your phone. If you use iCloud Photos, changes you make in Shoo (favorites, albums, deletions) sync through iCloud, like any change in the Photos app.
Where is my progress saved, and how do I start over?
Which photos you’ve reviewed, the delete queue, undo history, your settings and stats are stored only on your iPhone (and may be included in its backups). Closing the app doesn’t lose them.
To start over, go to Settings → Progress → Reset reviewed. Reviewed photos come back as cards, the delete queue stays as it is, and Shoo asks where to start. Deleting the app erases its data, but changes already made to your library stay.
Could I delete a favorite by accident?
If you swipe a favorite photo or video to delete, Shoo asks first. To keep favorites out of the cards entirely, turn on Settings → Filters → Skip favorites. When the source is Favorites itself, Shoo doesn’t ask on every card.
Can I clean up just one album, my screenshots or my videos?
Yes. In Settings → Where photos come from → Source, pick All photos, any of your albums, or an iOS system album such as Favorites, Screenshots, Selfies or Live Photos (whichever your library has).
Under Filters, set the order (newest first, oldest first or longest videos first) and the period (all time, a specific month, older than 30 days or new since last session). The Photos, Videos and All tabs on the main screen narrow it further. They all combine: the Screenshots album plus “Older than 30 days” shows your old screenshots.
Can I start from a particular month?
Yes. Go to Settings → Filters → Start from and pick a month. With Newest first, cards start at the end of that month and go back in time. With Oldest first, they start at its beginning and go forward. Start from isn’t available with Longest videos first, and doesn’t apply when the period is a specific month.
How do I change the theme or language?
Go to Settings → Appearance. The theme can be System, Light or Dark. The language can be System, Ukrainian or English. System picks Ukrainian or English, whichever comes first in your iPhone’s language list (English if neither is there).
How do I report a bug?
Email us at hello@shoo.pro. It helps a lot if you include:
- your iPhone model and iOS version;
- the Shoo version (Settings → About Shoo);
- what you did, step by step, what you expected and what happened instead;
- a screenshot or screen recording, if you can.
